The buffalo is held in high regard by the Lakota people and revered as a symbol of the divine. Its flesh fed them, its hide was used in making tipis, clothes and moccasins. Its bones and horns were used to make tools and utensils. Tatanka was a true Lakota relative, making life possible on the Great Plains.
In the sacred rituals of the Lakota, the buffalo symbolizes honor and self-sacrifice, two of the Lakota peoples' most cherished virtues.
Have a great day!
